Our Caregivers
Our Caregivers
Your Loved Ones Come First
Quality care for your loved ones begins with our senior companions and caregivers, and we know that our caregivers are the best in New York. At SeniorCare Companions, we take the time to individually train and pre-screen every member of our team.
All of our caregivers are bonded and insured through our agency and undergo an in-depth screening process, which includes:
- Employee and Personal Reference Checks
- Criminal Background Checks
- Medical Requirements such as Drug Screening, Physical, PPD, MMR’s, Hepatitis A/B, Flu Shot, and a COVID Test.
Fully Trained Senior Companions and Caregivers
Our staff completes a mandatory training course concerning Alzheimer’s and dementia, as well as caregiver roles and responsibilities. The course also includes recognizing and acting on a medical emergency, infection control, proper body mechanics, home, fire and driving safety tips. Each and every caregiver must pass a written examination before they are eligible to work for our company.
The requirements for senior companions and caregivers in New York may vary depending on the specific type of care being provided and the employer. However, some general guidelines and mandates may include:
- Certification: In New York, senior companions and caregivers may be required to obtain certification from the New York State Department of Health (DOH) to work in home care agencies.
- Background checks: Senior companions and caregivers in New York may be required to undergo a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, as part of the certification process or as mandated by the employing agency.
- Training: Senior companions and caregivers may be required to complete a state-approved training program that covers topics such as first aid, infection control, medication administration, and basic caregiving skills. The training may also include specific training related to the care of seniors with certain health conditions, such as dementia or diabetes.
- Licensing: In some cases, senior companions and caregivers may be required to hold a valid driver’s license if their responsibilities include transportation of seniors.
- Health requirements: Senior companions and caregivers may be required to provide proof of immunization or undergo certain health screenings, such as tuberculosis (TB) testing, as part of the employment requirements.
- Language proficiency: Some employers may require senior companions and caregivers to be proficient in English or other languages depending on the needs of the seniors they are caring for.
- Continuing education: Senior companions and caregivers may be required to complete ongoing training and continuing education to maintain their certification or employment status.
It’s important to note that requirements can change over time, and it’s always recommended to check the most up-to-date regulations and mandates from the New York State Department of Health or other relevant agencies to ensure compliance with current requirements for senior companions and caregivers in New York.
